It has taken me a good portion of the morning and the afternoon, but I’ve finally gotten the subscribing thing to work. I had to go with a completely different plugin. So, what that means is, if you subscribed in the last few days, I’m really, really sorry, but you’ll have to subscribe again. I unfortunately was stupid and uninstalled the other plugin without noting down the emails to manually enter them into the new one.

But the good news is, this new plug in really works. And it lets you pick the categories that you want to subscribe to. Not that I have my categories in great shape, because that’s on my to-do list as well. But if you only want KAL notification, you can just have that. Or just info about the Challenge, you can just have that.

The link to subscribe is over there on the left side under “Pages”. Or you can just go here: http://blog.designs-by-emily.com/post_notification_header/ .

And now that I’ve wasted a good chunk of knitting time today, I’m off to knit while my hubby watches football.

OK. So that title needs some work.

I’ve not been knitting. I’ve been thinking about knitting, but it just hasn’t happened in a while. I’ve been trying to knit a chemo cap for my neighbor for over a month. It shouldn’t take six weeks to finish a cap. It shouldn’t take 6 days to finish a cap. Especially now that I’m not working, and considering that I started it in the summer! But I’ve been a bit preoccupied.

In an effort to forget about all my kid troubles (that I won’t elaborate on here), I’ve been thinking over the non-knitting situation. And the non-designing situation. And the non-KAL situation. I also realized that I did a perfectly nice free pattern for August and never added to the website. Shame on me. I’ll have to get right on that.

I have a pattern all planned out that I was going to do for the September free pattern and KAL. But since September is almost done, I’m just going to test knit it quickly and throw it up on the site. And since it coincidentally is a schoolhouse, which is the same thing that the Monthly Dishcloth Group did for their September KAL, I’ll bet you’re glad I never got around to mine. The design is different, but really, who needs two schoolhouses?

While I’m test knitting that pattern, I’ll quickly test knit the patterns I have planned for October and November. By the way, I’ve had these three patterns done since last year! I just never got around to typing them up and knitting them. Last year was one heck of a year at school and by the time it calmed down it was spring, and I wasn’t in the mood for fall patterns by then.

The other idea I have floating around in my head is one completely crazy one and I’m not sure if I should even mention it, so I don’t think I will. But if by some miracle there is anyone who actually checks on this blog from time to time and asks me about it, then I will mention it and see what kind of reaction I get. Leave me a comment if you want to hear about my new crazy scheme. And maybe I’ll post about it. Or maybe I won’t because I just might come to my senses.

Sorry it has taken me a couple of days to post this, but here is a picture of the KAL from last week. In case you weren’t able to figure out what it was, it’s a charcoal grill.

On the knitting front….there is no knitting! LOL I’m working on trying to get together a bunch of patterns for my test knitters as well as chart out a gazillion new designs. I have so many ideas floating around, I’ll never get them all done! I’ve also had several requests lately and I’m very far behind on those. So, if you’ve put in a request recently, I’m not ignoring you. I’m just swamped.

In the meantime, I’ve been thinking about doing a knit-a-long as a way of jump starting interest in the site again and to put out the free pattern of the month for June. I just thought it would be something different to do. I’ll put up a few lines per day here on the blog and then have the entire pattern available for download when it’s all finished.

Any thoughts on that idea?

Well, it was one crazy week last week. I managed to finish the shrug and it turned out beautifully! That was after frantically ripping out and reknitting several times because I kept making mistakes while trying to knit so fast. Then the clincher was on Friday morning, about an hour after I finished sewing up the sleeve seams and about 2 minutes before I had to leave to work, my adorable 19 month old decided to help me out. I heard him say, “Mama, Mama,” and I looked over to see him holding my coffee cup by the edge of the lid and toddling over to me. I reached out and just as I touched the cup, the lid let go and coffee flies all over my new white shrug. Fifteen minutes later, I’ve used quite a bit of oxyclean and managed to get all the coffee out. I tossed it in the dryer, dashed off to work and later that evening got lots of compliments on the outfit, complete with shrug.

Currently, I’m working on some dishcloths to get caught up with the KALs in the Monthly Dishcloth KAL Challenge. I’ve only done the January cloths, and I’ve almost finished the first February one. I figure by the weekend I should be all caught up.

I’ve been knitting like crazy since yesterday evening working on a shrug. We have a wedding on Saturday with the rehearsal on Friday evening. For Friday, I have a pretty yellow sleeveless dress to wear, but it really needs a little cover up for it. So, I’m knitting as fast as I can to finish the shrug by then. I’m knitting it in TLC Plus yarn in white. So far it’s turning out really pretty. I’m very pleased with the pattern.

I’ll let you know how it turns out!

Welcome!

After many, many weeks of work, I’ve finally gotten my website, Designs by Emily, updated with a brand new look. And I’ve finally gotten my blog started up to be a part of the site as well. My old blogspot knitting blog, a little bit of knitting, will no longer be updated and, I hope, very soon all the content will be transferred over here. Then I will be able to delete the old one.

Now that all the website work has been finished, I am anxious to get back to knitting and designing. I’ll be charting my progress here and providing updates and sneak peeks at new designs.

If you have any requests for a particular design, drop me an email at emily@designs-by-emily.com . I’ll be happy to give it a try.

Take care and happy knitting!
